Early in 2018, Auckland historic Swanson railway station was struck by a freak mini-tornado destroying the roof over the platform.

This event accelerated the building's restoration work already planned for by AT, which included new lighting that would enhance the beauty of the old building and at the same time meet the standards required for the platform lighting.

Working with LDP's Morgann Le Bars, we utilised LED Linear's discrete Kalypso and Adonis family of IP67 linear profiles. A continuous run of Kalypso with its optical grazing lenses to evenly illuminate the old weatherboard facade and individual Adonis luminaires with opal diffusers projecting outwards to the platform edge.

By positioning the slim profiles within the purlins, we could graze the facade in rich 2500k warmth, yet still project the much cooler 4000k to the platform with minimal visual distraction from different colour temperatures.

It has achieved a well lit and pleasant result, making the old station come alive again for a new season.
